A.I. News: Transcendent Man: Film About Kurzweil
Artificial Intelligence AI researcher Ben Goertzel peeks at the new Ray Kurzweil movie "Transcendent Man," and gives it 'two nano-enhanced cyberthumbs way, way up!' In an exchange with Kurzweil after the screening, Goertzel debates the post-human future, asking whether individuality can survive in a machine-augmented brain. The documentary covers radical futurism, but also includes alternate viewpoints. 'Would I build these machines, if I knew there was a strong chance they would destroy humanity?' asks evolvable hardware researcher Hugo de Garis. His answer? 'Yeah.'" Note, the movie is about Kurzweil and futurism, not by Kurzweil.

A.I. News: Robot discovers laws of Newton in hours
Artificial Intelligence Scientists have unveiled artificial intelligence systems capable of making scientific discoveries, a leap forward in the quest to build machines that perform mental tasks long considered the exclusive preserve of humans.

A computer program developed by Cornell University scientists in the US has deduced Newton’s laws of motion and laws of energy conservation by observing swinging pendulums without prior knowledge of physics.

A.I. News: New Car Reads Roadsigns.
Technology The new Vauxhall Insignia is a very unique car indeed...because, ladies and gentlemen, it can read roadsigns. This in itself may not seem like much, but stop for a moment and think; how big a challenge was it to solve that problem?

A.I. News: Help! Help! They're stealing our children!
Artificial Intelligence Well, not exactly stealing...

A group of swarm robots (macro-scale) were tasked with pulling a child to the other side of the testing area

A.I. News: Another step forward for the robo-butler.
Robotics The past promises of science...well, it's now catching up to reality!

One of the many problems keeping humanoid robots in the lab was dexterity; claws and pincers may be appealing to an Evil Genius, but they arn't really useful around our homes, where items are designed to be used by our fingers and thumbs.

A.I. News: Genetic algorithms; the next Da Vinci?
Artificial Intelligence Over the ether that makes up the net, I've heard of a fascinating new project, a genetic algorithm that evolves an almost-perfect copy of the Mona Lisa.

Personally, I wonder just how far 'automated art' (genetic or otherwise) will go. If you've ever attempted to mimic the great artist, you would find it impossibly hard, but computers, once again, have proved themselves our betters..

A.I. News: EU Backs AI Research to Become World Leader
Artificial Intelligence The EU and European Commission have decided that in order to be a world leader of the next generation, they need to develop and research in the area of Artificial Cognitive Systems (ACSs). This is one of seven key areas they believe are very important for future world powers.

The SIMBAD project is their attempt to put this kind of research to practical use. The hope is that SIMBAD proves useful in the field of biomedicine, which would propel the project forward and allow for much more research to be carried out.

A.I. News: UAV Helicopters; Now Giving Haircuts.
Artificial Intelligence The reasons we don't have commercial autonomous aircraft are many;

These include everything from legal issues, such as who's to blame if there is an accident? (Same problem with Autonomous cars) to how to navigate in heavily used airspace.

This website was created in memory of the ChatbotFriends website which inspired me to delve deeper into the topic of Chatbots (Chatterbots). I originally started it as a replacement when that site went down, but we have since branched out a lot. We were originally the Chatbot Hub and focused mainly on chatbots but, with the growth of the site, we decided to expand out to other similar aspects of AI and rename ourselves "AI Hub". I hope that all of the visitors can be inspired by what Artificial Intelligence can accomplish.
